{find your voice | week 1}

28 June 2013

I just discovered this great workshop that is taking place over the summer. There will be eight weekly lessons around the idea of {storytelling through pictures, paper and prose}. Doesn't this sound ideal !

Today I completed Lesson One and created the front page of my journal. Nothing too fancy, just using the scrap bits that I have here for my {project life} ~

I used Freckled Fawn washi tape, Dear Lizzy stickers, Thickers for the letters, a Studio Calico chipboard speech bubble sticker and two Skipping5 geotags to make the shape of a heart.  The butterfly was a freebie from a kind etsy seller :)

Looking forward to next weeks adverture already !

{16 - 22 June 2013 | week 25}

24 June 2013

It's week 25 :)

What happened this week ?

This week included Father's Day and all of the left side of the pages are dedicated to this.  The {today} journal card isn't blank but I've popped a blank one in there and also blurred the bottom photo, I'm sure you understand.

The sun finally arrived and I managed to snap a gorgeous photo of my daughter Molly blowing bubbles outside.  The first strawberries of the year were picked from the garden (and eaten pretty quickly !).  It was the last swimming session, the children have really enjoyed this activity and profited so much from the lessons.

And Photoshop came into my life in a big way this week.  I have enjoyed learning new skills.

{9-15 June 2013 | week 24}

17 June 2013

It's week 24 and this week we have spring green and pink as our colours

What happened this week ?

The swimming lessons continue and we stopped at the lake at Songieu again to throw some stones. We painted our pottery lamps we made during the school trip to Chanaz. I took some portrait photos of the children and pets for an insert page (not shown). I especially love the photo that I took of the chives growing in our garden and this helped me choose the colour scheme for the week too. I am trying hard to use the camera off the {automatic shooting} setting, so was pleased with the result of my efforts.

Inspired by other blogs that I read we created our {summer bucket list} of all the things we'd like to do. I am going to display these ideas (there are 20 in total) on individual cards on a board and add a photo each time we complete an activity. Hopefully at the end of the summer we will have a visual memory of our summer wishes.

Again I modified some of the filler cards so they were closer to our chosen colour scheme.  Another reason for going with green and pink this week was because it finally felt like Spring, which is ironic as it's Summer next week ! I used papier calque for the Mother Teresa quote and last week's photo of the Church at Vieu can be seen this week also.

I started using the {Collect} photo app to record a photo each day and used the one of Tuesday to print out a journal card concerning Noah.

{2-8 June 2013 | week 23}

11 June 2013

Loving our colour scheme this week !

So what happened this week ?

Our week didn't start very brightly as our eldest son Zachary {age 9 and Type 1 diabetic} was poorly. We think that he had some sort of allergic reaction to lychees, as this was the only thing that he ate that other family members didn't.

On Monday we visited the fishing lake where Zachary is hoping to spend most of his summer, took some photos and did a little bit of exploring. We found lots of tadpoles !

On Thursday I had a little trip around the local beauty spots (natural and man-made)  and took some photos. I have started a little project, which I hope to finish in the next week or so and include as a insert into my {project life}.

The best end to the week - we got a new car !!

Techniques ~

This week I managed to get hold of some papier calque {tracing paper} and had lots of fun using this on my project pages. I tried to create a {layer} feel to some of the inserts. Unfortunately I don't have Photoshop on my computer (it's too old) so I tried to replicate the idea using this technique.

With my Canon EOS 40D I took a photo of the church gateway and tower at Vieu (in French). This church was constructed in the 12th Century on the site of a Roman Temple and has an unusual bell tower. I processed the image to black and white and then printed this onto the papier calque so that the white areas in the photo are transparent. I love this effect and will not put a card over this next week so that it can be seen from both weeks ~

I also printed other filler inserts onto the papier calque and placed these over other fillers and photos. You can see this on the following ~

Left top right photo half covered by {this photo it's my fav this week} ~

Left middle far left photo covering Zachary
Right middle left - sunburst on calque covers a Seafoam filler
Right middle right - {hello summer} covers a filler from Milestone Cards

Again I made a couple of moderations to the filler cards, changing some colours to keep them more in line with my colour scheme that I chose of black, white, yellow and grey.

I also included some extra information behind the photo of the sewing machine. This machine was my paternal grandmother's and I inherited it and treat it as a family heirloom. I used the sewing machine to attach the papier calque to the other photos/fillers. She is such a beauty that I had to include a photo of her !  Behind the photo are two tabs that read {pull}. The first shows a copy of the original purchase receipt from 1938. The second is a journal card, detailing more information about the machine. The use of tabs really appeals to me !

4 June 2013

Here we are again, still keeping up :)

This week almost all of the left hand side page is dedicated to Mothers Day.  Mothers Day in France is always celebrated towards the end of May, which is at a different time to both the UK and the USA.The children love making their little presents at school with the help of the teachers. They enthusiastically presented me with them on Sunday morning, and it was lovely to have hand made presents with love.  I am so very grateful to be their {mummy}.  I found some quotes from Smitha Katti at smilingcolors and onevelvetmorning detailing motherhood and the family. There is also a mother {subway art} filler. The top middle picture on the right side shows the crazy temperatures that we are experiencing ! One minute it is 25 degrees and sunny, the next it is snowing; the locals have never seen anything like it !

I have used Seafoam cards on this side and the weekly number card from septemberblue.

Left side details ~

We had a big tidy-up on Wednesday, and the children helped clean their bedrooms and then we moved some of the furniture around as they wanted their beds in different places.  I teamed this with a quote from smilingcolors and added emphasis with the use of some glossy accents on the {live}.

I have been very organised this week too.  I have filed our French tax return and organised my {project life} cards.  I read a great blog post by Patter Cross at triplethescraps, which gave me a lot of inspiration.  I have used Seafoam, Honey and Midnight fillers on this side and I did a little editing to produce the {happy thoughts} card too ! I combined the Honey and Seafoam sets by using a filler card from the Honey set with {today is a gift} and a journal card from the Seafoam set with {today is good} detailed on them :)

The bottom right hand corners details our meal out on Saturday lunchtime at a Chinese restaurant.  I used journal cards from helloforever and bananafish from two peas in a bucket digital online store.
