{21 - 27 July 2013 | week 30}

28 July 2013

It's week 30 and it's all about yellow, a tribute to Chris Froome, winner of the Tour de France 2013 :)

What happened this week ?

Back from holiday and still enjoying the visit of Grandma and Grandpa. The week kicked off with Chris Froome's awesome victory of the Tour de France 2013. Whilst I missed some of the televised stages due to being on holiday, I still managed to keep up to date via my iPhone.

We found lots to do this week, a visit to the lac at Virieu le Grand for a picnic and swim. Three items on the bucket list got ticked off; swimming at Champagne en Valromey, revisiting Chanaz and the Lac du Bourget. I have insert pages with 18 photos from this trip, but these are not shown. The weather has been touching on {heatwave} all week and we have made full use of the home swimming pool ! On Saturday the tent was erected so that the children could sleep out overnight in it (another bucket list wish).

24 July 2013

Week 5 asks {what is your design style?}

Whilst I am drawn to minimalist layouts and designs I also love to inject colour, so I am experimenting with a style somewhere between the two. But most of the time I just do what makes me happy and {feels} right :)

For the craft based prompt I was totally inspired by the recent {beach} scrap by Genevive from scrappingcrazy.

This is my {digital} inspiration based on our holiday beach ~

This makes me happy as it tells the story of the beautiful beach and our wonderful holiday :)

Hoped you enjoyed reading, see you soon !

{find your voice | week 4}

23 July 2013

I'm late as I have been away on holiday :)

Week 4 (already half way there !) is {what are your storytelling goals?}

This week I have whipped up two craft based prompts around the same storyline. I was taking some photos of the garden and I noticed Molly and Grandma having a chat so I snapped a few shots and was really pleased with how one in particular turned out. I based a digital and a {hand's on} scrap around this photo.

Digital ~

For this I used a onelittlebird template and the {chasing fireflies} digital pack from paislee press.

The {hand's on} scrap ~

For this I used some papers from the Seafoam kit by Becky Higgins, some elle's studio {saltwater} stamps using Tsukineko {mineral} stamp pad, freckled fawn washi tap and dew drop arrow sticker, skipping5 puffy stickers, studio calico cork sticker, some die cuts from pinkpaislee and my vintage {singer} sewing machine.

I enjoyed both methods, and I'm still picking up lots of PSE techniques.

Can't wait for the next lesson :)

{14 - 20 July 2013 | week 29}

22 July 2013

It's week 29 and it's all about our holiday !

What happened this week ?

We went away as a family for the first time ! We had a really brilliant time and all got safely tanned. The boys learnt to snorkel. We discovered the perfect beach and tried lots of different food styles.

I will be adding page inserts when the photographs come back from Persnickety Prints and so will do another post, but for now here are our pages:

{7 - 13 July 2013 | week 28}

21 July 2013

It's week 28 and I'm playing catchup after having a week in the sun ! Our colour scheme followed the large portrait of Molly ~

What happened this week ?

It was the first week of the school holidays, so a time for relaxation. We welcomed Grandma and Grandpa to France as they are staying here to look after the pets and chickens whilst we are on holiday. It was the last lesson of speech therapy for Molly, she has progressed very well. Flowers are growing well in the garden. There was lots of pool fun before the packing of suitcases :)

{find your voice | week 3}

11 July 2013

So lesson 3 is {what are your goals?}

I want to tell life stories involving my family and friends. Big stories, little stories, true stories. I want to give our family a history, a three dimensional image.

My creativity goals are ~

- create good memory keeping
- tell a story for now and for future generations
- fulfil my creativity needs
- learn new skills
- enjoy !

Bearing all that in mind I came up with this as the project for the craft based prompt ~

The 5 reasons that this project made me happy are ~

- I learnt a new skill - digital scrapbooking with elements & template
- It will tick the box of {good memory keeping}
- It tells a story about my wedding day
- It fulfilled my creativity needs
- I enjoyed doing it !

Supplies ~

The free template and elements are from sahlin studio that I discovered through the lilypad. The glitter heart is via design editor and I found some of the papers free on-line too.

Thoroughly enjoyed this week, I will have to play catch up as we go away on holiday on Saturday. See you when I get back !

{30 June - 6 July 2013 | week 27}

8 July 2013

It's week 27 and I'm still up-to-date ! Sadly I know this won't last as we go away on holiday for a week on Saturday :)

What happened this week ?

It was the last week of school before the summer holidays and I decided to record our {everyday life}. Zachary had his last football practice of the year and it was a parents and children game that was lots of fun with Zachary scoring two goals, so he was pleased. I completed the {summer bucket list} and hung it on the wall ready for the holidays.

{find your voice | week 2}

5 July 2013

So onto week 2 and this week's lesson is {who are you ?}

The basics ~

I'm Sarah, I was born in Coventry, England and now I live in France. Favourite colour is pink, love all things historical and anything with a sniff of a vampire in it ! Hobbies are knitting and my family history.  If I could I would be sunbathing on a secluded beach in the Maldives :)

Best accomplishment - my children, without a doubt !

Worst day - 29 December 2000 on British Airways flight 2069 Gatwick, London to Nairobi, Kenya

Furthest from home - Australia 2002 (as a result of a free return flight offered by BA)

Smartest topic - Tudor England

Craft based prompt ~

Extending the genealogy interest I developed a page around a {family tree} with the leaves as bullet points of my life and the branches holding more details ~

Again I used supplies that I have here for my {project life} pages. These include Studio Calico woodchip letters and girl, flair, arrow and sticker, Freckled Fawn woodchip heart, Kelly Purkey alphabet stickers and Pink Paislee diecuts.

I drew the tree in PSE and printed it out onto cardstock.  I cut the leaves from coloured paper and stuck them on with gluedots so that they stand out from the tree.

I'm pleased with the result, I had a basic idea when I started and it developed along the way - I had lots of fun with this weeks lesson :)

{23 - 29 June 2013 | week 26}

1 July 2013

It's week 26 and halfway through the year already ! Our colour scheme this week follows the traditional colours of the Seafoam kit ~

What happened this week ?

The children had their school end of year {spectacle} last Saturday but I have included it in this week as they wanted to write some journal cards. Zachary and Noah both chose to write in French, as this is the language that they speak at school. I wore some fabulous high wedge sandals and we had lots of fun !

I got a new lens for my camera, a {nifty fifty} 50mm fixed.  I popped it on for the first time and took a super photo of Zachary. I made my favourite French onion tart that we never grow tired of.  Another thing Molly never grows tired of is throwing stones in the lake and I snapped a few shots of her using the VSCO cam application.  I am really impressed with this app and all the different filters.  I have included eight additional photos from this afternoon in an insert page (not shown).

Noah spent the afternoon at the {big} school at Virieu le Petit with Zachary. He will start there in September and is very much looking forward to it. We finished the school week with excellent end of year reports :)

And on Saturday the 100th Tour de France started in Corsica. The finish line was moved as a bus got stuck, then the bus was freed and the original finish line was reinstalled and then there was a big crash with less than 3km to go. You have to love the drama of the Tour !
