{18 - 24 August 2013 | week 34}

25 August 2013

It's week 34 and the summer holidays are coming to end !

What happened this week ?

This week was very much about fulfilling bucket lists and getting out and about.

I included some photos from our family meal as I didn't have time to add them last week. On Wednesday we went to the Parc des Oiseaux at Villars-les-Dombes. This is a favourite summer outing for us, to see the birds in their own natural environment, feeding them and watching the {Spectacle}. I took some great photos, including birds flying over our heads ! Zachary went fishing for the first time, he didn't catch anything but is keen to go again. Noah was promised a new bike if he learnt to ride using Zachary's old one, and he did really well. He is very different to the others, he is a {watcher} and when he is ready he will do it. Well he was ready this week and now we have to buy him a bike (stay tuned).

We went searching for a {geocache} on the Col du Colombier that we had tried to find in June but it was above the snow line. This time we were successful with Noah finding the treasure. We then explored around the chartreause d'Arvieres.

onelittlebird released {trailblazer} which was perfect timing for our week of activities. I incorporated a few of the journal cards and papers into this week's spread.

I made a couple of filler cards using the Studio Calico Toolbox week 1 digital techniques.

Week 3 of Toolbox is all about {stitching} so I had some fun in the evenings relaxing and sewing.

{11 - 17 August 2013 | week 33}

19 August 2013

It's week 33 and we're still having lots of summer holiday fun !

What happened this week ?

We finally got our tractor lawnmower back after weeks at the repair shop! France shuts down over the summer holidays so we had a wait whilst it was repaired, but now the grass is cut it looks stunning.  Poor Frederic has been taken by a fox. We are not sure how the fox got entry into the pen inside another pen, but there is no sign of Frederic. Nat and Zachary have been working this week at reinforcing the cage for the next inhabitant.

We took two of our classic cars out of the garage to start working on them, unfortunately the Citroen 2CV is going to need a new floor pan, more time and money than originally planned. However the Citroen Dyane is perfect now it has a new battery so in the next weeks it will get a certificate to say it's road worthy and insurance and I will be back driving it again. One day my Volkswagen Beetles will be out and working !

My Toolbox class is continuing, this week is {mixed media}. I produced a 3x4 and 6x4 card using the techniques taught using gesso.

I found a bargain working vintage typewriter on eBay and that arrived this week, just awaiting a new ribbon to be able to use it in my scrapbooking.

We went out for a family lunch on Friday at Panoramic, which has gorgeous views overlooking the Lac du Bourget.

{toolbox | week 2}

17 August 2013

This week we have been playing with mixed media :) I love getting my hands dirty with paints and ink and this week I got to play with {gesso}. This was my first time, I don't remember it from school - I was more into numbers and things !

This is my layout based around a photo that I took with my DSLR on Wednesday night of our gorgeous sunset. Such beautiful colours in the photograph, partly because of all the dust in the atmosphere from harvest time here in France.

I used my newly acquired gesso and watercolour paints, some of the Studio Calico Valley High {project life} kit and some embellishments from Freckled Fawn, My Mind's Eye and Skipping5.  I used stamps from Freckled Fawn, Valley High and Elle's Studio.

I was very pleased with the result ~

Next week it's {stitching} with Amy Tan !

{4 - 10 August 2013 | week 32}

11 August 2013

It's week 32 and the summer left us for a little time this week, the weather brought us lots of much needed rain !

What happened this week ?

We celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary this week - how time flies ! I gave my desk area a much needed tidy and clean, and mean to try and keep it this way. We made redcurrant sorbet with our own freshly picked redcurrants, I adjusted the recipe to lower the sugar and dilute the taste for the children and Zachary in particular. My Enyo (ball jointed doll) arrived that I had ordered in December, she is beautiful - well worth the wait.

On Wednesday I took the children back to Chanaz to look around the Museum and Windmill and we narrowly missed being caught in a storm ! Thursday saw us shopping again at the local market for our cheeses and Friday we went to get all the school stationary items for September. Nat picked up a new Orpington cockerel on Friday afternoon, we have named him "Frederic". He replaces Cedric, who had to be put down whilst Zachary was at Lyon.

This week saw the start of the Studio Calico {toolbox} classroom. We were learning digital techniques with Shanna Noel, and I really enjoyed this. I have only recently started using PSE and it was great to learn new tricks and tips. We were given a chevron template to use with the class, which I had lots of fun with :)

Week 7 is about {taking it to the next level}

Having just started the Studio Calico {toolbox} course I chose to revisit last week's prompt and reproduce my scrap layout ~

This time I built the layout from scratch, using my new found classroom techniques :)

Last week next week, it's been a great summer !

{toolbox | week 1}

6 August 2013

I signed up for the classroom {toolbox} course run by Studio Calico

This is a four week course in August featuring lessons in digital, mixed media, stitching and misting. It started yesterday with the first lesson by Shanna Noel. We got an awesome chevron template to play with along with some free papers and brushes.

I had a basic idea in mind that I would attempt a hybrid layout, but I got carried away in the {digital} moment and I am really pleased with my finished layout ~

As we have lessons three times a week, I probably won't update my blog with everything I produce. But I am hoping to show the highlights of the classroom.

I'm loving it so far, can't wait for the next lesson !

{28 July - 3 August 2013 | week 31}

4 August 2013

It's week 31 and the summer school holidays are in full swing ~

What happened this week ?

We started the week with Zachary having to leave for the hospital at Lyon for 3 days for his annual check up for his Type 1 Diabetes.  He tried to be brave but it's very hard for him to be apart from us, it broke my heart to leave him in tears in the hospital at bed time on Monday evening :( He brightened up on Tuesday when he found some other children to play with and he was able to come home on Wednesday :)

Grandma and Grandpa left on Tuesday morning to start their trip back home to Orkney. We enjoyed their visit immensely and hope they can visit again next year.

Week 6 explores {story style and design style}

I chose to describe the holiday into a scrapbook layout featuring two of my children enjoying their ice creams at the beach ~

For this layout I used exclusively the free items offered by the lilypad from the Ultimate Vacation 2013 kit
